The Importance of Digital Supply Chain in Airline Industry

If the jump to digital worked for television, film, and music, it should work for the supply chain too. Abhishek Singh writes a comprehensive article about the value of a digital supply chain for the airline industry, defining terms and employing helpful graphics to illustrate ideas. He chiefly discusses digital assets and their management, where a “digital asset” is a piece of controllable information that produces value for the owner. YouTube videos, for instance, can be digital assets. Singh further breaks down these assets into three categories, fixed, perishable, and dangerous. Management of these assets undergoes at least a process of creation, delivery, and consumption, though integration, aggregation, and distribution often come into play as well. The large profits to be made for taking advantage of little digital changes are palpable to say the least. Singh offers the example of swapping out 2kg inflight magazines for 650gram iPods on flights, which in itself can save hundreds of thousands of dollars regularly for airlines. Explore the full article to see just how valuable digital assets can be for you.
