Learn to Shut Up: 6 Ways to Speak More Concisely

Silence is golden, so if you need to talk, make it snappy. Mike Staver offers six ways to speak more concisely. He says to be clear with yourself about what you want to convey. Share with the person what it is you want to accomplish if it is not readily apparent. Never get derailed by stories or other issues. Use talk-ending techniques like saying, “So, what are the next steps?” or by using an example that sums up what has been discussed. Only give the amount of information a listener can digest. Lastly, get feedback on how much you talk and how comprehensible it is. Make your speech like a diamond—short and clear.
