Your IT department can’t be everywhere at once. So, when the day-to-day business operations are pulling you one way and new growth initiatives are pulling you another, something is bound to fall through the cracks. Bob Williams of MerchantStand.com reminds us that IT might not be the only one making technology decisions within the organization, and the results get complicated fast. For instance, marketing may make the decision to purchase new software for their department, but then expect IT to provide technical support.
This doesn’t make IT’s job easy, especially because IT doesn’t know the ins and outs of marketing. Ultimately, there’s no one solution to this problem, as every company is different. However, further alignment between IT and the business will increase communication and cut down on potential problems. In the end, every department should have the same goals. Everyone, whether it’s IT, marketing, or another aspect of the business, should be working together toward the same finish line.
