Why Negative Feedback Loops Matter

loopDoes negative feedback raise goose bumps on your arms? Do you break out in a sweat when a program doesn’t perform as planned? Don’t worry! The ITSM Professor points out that just as your body recognizes outside stress and adjusts accordingly, so are negative feedback loops essential in maintaining healthy ITSM.

We may not like to hear about those things that go wrong, but it is essential that we learn about them immediately so we can correct the situation. The needs of the business are constantly changing. To keep up, there needs to be a system of continual service improvement. Negative feedback loops are an important part of this. They bring you back toward your original goals, and help you keep everything within the company right on track.

So try not to sweat the small stuff! If you do, remember that your negative reaction doesn’t have to be a bad thing.  Just as an adrenaline rush prepares us to fight to the finish, so do negative feedback loops make it possible for you to overcome those pesky problems that fight your efficiency.
