What motivates you? To some, there is a pre-canned answer to this very interview-esque question. For others, it is much harder to determine. Truth is, figuring out what motivates you is remarkably important: if you don’t know the answer, you’re likely to never truly be happy in the work you do. This post by Kip Wright explains how, in the past, he’s believed that corporate culture was a way of determining how motivated employees were at a job. Later, however, he’s come to learn that there are a few different ways that people can be motivated: the motivation of getting ahead, the motivation of security, of getting free (from corporate bureaucracy, etc.), motivation from making a difference, and the motivation of harmony in the workplace. Determining which of these over-arching motivators works for you is the first step in making that big positive change in your work life.
