Being a leader is about more than being in charge. According to Tanya Prive, of Forbes.com, there are 10 qualities that make a great leader, qualities that can be practiced no matter the size of the organization or the title of the position. Some of the characteristics such as honesty, good communication, and commitment might seem like no-brainers. However Prive also stresses that a happy team of workers is a productive team. Qualities like sense of humor, positive attitude, and ability to inspire are equally important because they motivate the team to do their best work.
Sometimes that work means coloring outside the lines a little. A good leader will be ok with that to, recognizing that creativity can take the place of standard procedures for the best results. At the end of the day, a leader will be all these things and much more. Leadership goes beyond the list of character traits to a developed intuition that moves teammates to follow your example.
