You do not need a speech writer and a Super PAC to get ahead in office politics. But Beth Weissenberger discusses in an article for Bloomberg Businessweek that failing to engage in office politics is basically the equivalent of saying, “I am comfortable at my current level and am not willing to push for further advancement.” If it sounds harsh, that is because it is, but she goes at depth into how and why you need to step out of your comfort zone if you want to maximize your career success. Weissenberger says you need to network above and below you, find a mentor, initiate fun activities to show creativity and leadership, and find ways to better articulate your position.
