Finding Balance Between Business & IT

Alignment. Balance. A new understanding. No, this isn’t the mantra of a yoga class; it’s the world of IT. The article “IT…You’re Just Not Getting It…” from the blog ITILandme.com focuses on the need for the business and IT segments of the company to align themselves and come to a mutual appreciation of each other. The business side of an organization is just as important as the IT side, and the sooner that IT realizes this, the better the company will be.

That said, the IT department shouldn’t be downplayed either. In fact, the blog post argues that there will come a time that business and IT will be so fully merged that the IT department will become a thing of the past. The whole company will simply see themselves as IT, and the most successful individuals will be those that also balance a strong business sense with their IT knowledge. Have the business people sit down with the IT people to discuss the changes that will be happening in the future.  The meeting should take place in a comfortable open setting. You might want to get everyone together for a morning yoga session. Or maybe you could just discuss alignment over lunch.
