Causes of Supply Chain Insomnia Identified

In the dead of night, as the crickets chirp and the world is at peace, you lie wide awake with eyes bulging. Maybe the crickets are really loud, or maybe your supply chain worries have caught up with you. Dave Alberts writes an article ranking the top ten issues of concern for more than 200 companies surveyed. Here is the breakdown:

  1. Collaboration
  2. Inventory Management and Planning
  3. Demand Management and Forecasting
  4. Supply Chain Network Optimization
  5. Supply Chain Risk Management
  6. Training and Development
  7. Sales and Operations Planning
  8. Material Purchase price reductions
  9. Performance improvements in warehouses and RDC’s
  10. Supply Chain Segmentation

Alberts believes that the top two have a lot to do with needing to find more agile responses to customer demands while maintaining or improving current service levels in the interim. Sustainability is notably nowhere to be found on the list, as slashing costs seems to be a chief concern right now. Consult the original article for more implications on what this list means for the state of supply chains.
