The New Driver of IT Risk (It’s Not What You Think):

Gartner“By simply trying to keep up with individual compliance requirements, organisations become rule followers, rather than risk leaders,” said John A. Wheeler, research director at Gartner. “CIOs must stop being rule followers who allow compliance to dominate business decision making and become risk leaders who proactively address the most severe threats to their enterprises.”

This is the premise of a Newsroom article from Gartner, highlighting a shift in the reasons and responsibilities for IT risk management. Instead of becoming swamped in regulatory mandates, CIOs must be forward looking and expand their risks management to fit their company’s unique situations, and then prove to regulators that their actions are addressing the more universal regulations put in place.
