Should I Stay or Should I Go? 7 Arguments For and Against Leaving Your Job

Amitai Givertz plays devil’s advocate over at Salary.com, posing seven scenarios and giving a reason for and against leaving your job in each case. One of the scenarios is when your job does not challenge you anymore. On one hand, you should stay because the job provides you income to support things that challenge you in your private life, and on the other, you should leave because “going through the motions” can be a fast track to misery. Another scenario is that your talent goes unrecognized. You should stay because realistically, no one will ever grasp the full extent of your skills, and you should leave if you are being “systematically” overlooked in a way that costs you promotions. Check out the rest of the scenarios and see if the list tilts you in one direction or the other.
