Rethinking Risk in the Post Digital Era

Risk assessment has become a particularly tricky part of our new digital world. Mobile, cloud, and social business meet in ways that make it almost impossible to completely anticipate potential compromises. Deloitte advises the CIO not to give up hope, but to be sure to ask the right questions. If your employees are using mobile devices to access company data, are they also using the same device to check their personal email, surf the web, or access social networking? Is the customer information they work with stored in-house or externally in the cloud? Looking at how data is accessed is an important part of understanding new risks in a postdigital environment.

However, the questions you ask should be constantly changing. Expect the unexpected! Even if you block that certain troublesome website, the next day there might be a new tool that circumvents your control. Any risk management plan you come up with will need to change as technology evolves. It may be a constant challenge, but it also means many opportunities for the future of your organization.
