Project Managers: Answer These 5 Questions

fiveOn your mark, get set, go!  For every project manager there are five goals in the race to the finish line.  As you round the bend and the trophy is in sight, take a short water break.  Jason Westland advises that you reassess your progress and ask yourself five questions.

1.Will I finish on time?

2. Will I finish under budget?

3.Am I meeting all the requirements?

4. Are the customers happy?

5. Is my team happy?

Think of these goals as separate but equal teammates in your relay race.  When one is running well, it also helps the others.  Your key coaching technique is communication.  Always talk to your customer.  Do you need more time to finish your project?  Did you go over budget?  This might not mean the end of the race.  Approach your customer with the finish line in mind.  Your customer wants a product that meets their requirements, and you want a happy customer.  Talk it out while meeting your goals.  You might just find that your biggest cheerleader is the customers themselves.
