Only CIOs Can: Building the Workplace of the Future

Being an IT leader is no longer just about technology provisioning and maintenance roles, but about employee engagement and workforce experience. TJ Keitt suggests three new ways to change how IT leaders interact with their employees.

First, change your benchmarks. IT benchmarks are usually about performance of the infrastructure and employee satisfaction. However, CIO’s should also look at employee engagement methods or employee technology attitudes.

Secondly, don’t forget the importance of your technology portfolio. The newest technology is more than just a way to stand-out from other businesses. Use it to keep your employees motivated and your customers involved, because that’s what the technology is really there for.

Finally, reassess the design process. It’s not about what the design process is doing for you, but what it is doing for your employees. Are your employees’ needs fully met by the current process, or is it time to embrace an employee-centric design?

With these three tips, today’s CIO will be well prepared for the IT leadership of tomorrow.
