IT Outsourcing & ITIL

outsourceAs advancing technology makes it easier than ever to connect resources across large distances, outsourcing becomes one of the go-to solutions in IT. As Bob Anderson writes at his blog, however, outsourcing should never be considered the easy way out, and in fact should be inspected with an even more critical eye than work produced in-house. ITIL provides a means of addressing the expectations of outsourced services, through methods such as problem management, change management, service level management, and continuity management, among others. The utility of some ITIL methods will be more immediately apparent than others, though in their own unique ways big and small, they are sure to appear. The IT Outsourcing Toolkit is a useful aid based on the ITIL Toolkit that will help you on your way. A pre-written service level agreement, benchmarking audit kit, service level requirements template, blueprint outsourcing contract, and transition plan guide are all included. Anderson concludes that the burden of security in matters of outsourcing ultimately falls to you, and so it is paramount that you build the necessary protections into your agreements from the outset. Outsourcing can indeed by a very useful strategy, but only if you employ it responsibly.
