Future CIOs will be entrepreneurs, according to Joel Dobbs (CEO and president of The Compass Talent Management Group LLC). In this article by Joe McKendrick highlights Dobbs' prediction alongside his own belief that CIOs of the future are going to find themselves “selling ideas, leading teams on new products, and securing the right resources.” Furthermore, IT will continue to find itself challenged by outside vendors who are, even today, finding there way into organizations.
McKendrick includes Dobbs' outlook on the prerequisits for the future CIO:
- Comfort with ambiguity
- Risk tolerance
- Self motivation
- Energy, restlessness, and persistence
While some of these qualities, if not all, are beneficial to a current CIO, it's clear that the future CIO will need to be quite sure they posess these prerequisites if they hope to succeed in the ever changing environment between business and IT.
