Major UK IT projects at risk of failure!

Sam Shead reports that several IT projects, including the G-Cloud programme and the Universal Credit programme are at risk of failure, according to the Major Projects Authority (MPA) Annual report.

Out of the 191 projects reviewed, eight were given the “red light” rating, meaning that they are considered unachievable by the MPA – and four of those eight are IT projects. Shead’s article goes on to explain how the projects came to be considered red light and what the MPA is able to do because of that rating. Not surprisingly, the MPA encounters resistance from the owners of the projects that it red lights, though the benefit (as the head of the MPA explains it) is that “the Major Projects Authority has real power to intervene in failing projects and stop taxpayers’ money from being wasted.”
