During especially difficult projects it is easy to allow a results based atmosphere to pollute the moral of your team. This can be effective but it is not the only way to manage a team. Encouraging humor and a relaxed environment can make your team feel more comfortable and increase productivity.
There are three suggestions for keeping things relaxed:
1. Build team spirit
“A strong bond within your team is going to be very important as your projects progress and as the leader of the piece of work it is up to you to help achieve this.”
2. Defuse difficult situations
“One of the great things which a touch of humor can do is make difficult or tense situations a lot easier. If you are involved in a discussion which could get heated then making a little joke can be a great way of letting things cool down.”
3. Make meetings more fun
“Anything you can do liven up your meetings has got to be good. A trick I picked up early on was to break the ice by getting everyone to add some humor into their introduction.”
