How Poor Leaders Become Good Leaders

HBRIt is never too late to learn the skills to make yourself a good leader. Jack Zenger and Joseph Folkman write for Harvard Business Review about how this can be accomplished in nine ways. Chiefly, you must improve the effectiveness of communication. Make an effort to share your knowledge and expertise more widely. Improve your ability to inspire and motivate, and encourage others to do more and be better. Be the champion of your team’s ideas.  Develop a broader perspective. Recognize that you are a role model responsible for setting an example and understand when changes are necessary. Overall, try to encourage cooperation over competition, because with cooperation, everybody wins.
