Your IT Project May Be Riskier Than You Think

Wal-Mart broke the barrier with its integration of supply chain to customer need. While this was an outstanding move for Wal-Mart itself, it broadsided Levi-Strauss. An initial project to update aging software turned into a quagmire for the company, who now needed to not only move data from an old system to a new system, but also meet the requirements of Wal-Mart's new supply chain management system. This article from Harvard Business Review utilizes this example to illustrate the dangers in even the most routine projects, giving some helpful tips on what companies need to consider before initializing a project.
