How VP of IT Operations can drive business relevance and alignment

Myles Suer uses his undergraduate degree in anthropology to explain the culture of the “VP of IT Operation”, which, as Suer explains it, is the manager of the largest tribe in IT. While they are often viewed as a step-CIO, the truth is the VP of IT Operations can have a dramatic impact on the “tribe”, and are being asked more and more to reduce costs and prove it. Suer lists 7 ways to identify if a person in this position is doing their job, including the percentage of SLAs met, percentage of unauthorized implemented changes,   and mean time to repair.  The measures of success can go a long way to keep the VP of IT Operations in a good light with their “tribe” and executive management.
