What’s Holding CISOs Back?

With high profile security breaches like Sony and Wikileaks, Stephanie Balaouras ask the pertinent question: why have security budgets only gone up by single digits? Balaouras gives all the reasons this shouldn’t be: with the explosion of mobile devices and cloud software, organizations are rapidly losing control of their data. She gives a few theories to the missing numbers: either professionals are hesitant to apply risk management practices to security, IT hasn’t yet built the importance of security to overall business objectives, or IT simply doesn’t know how to talk to the rest of the business in a way the business can understand.
