The talent of a CIO is often limited by the authority they are given. This is the focus of an article by Nicole Blake Johnson. Johnson notes that many companies have come to expect a high turnover rate among CIOs. This makes people not want to follow a CIO completely because the next person may want to do something different. CIOs who are here to stay must push for more authority if they hope to make progress with their ideas. If we want our CIOs to improve our organizations, we need to make sure we give them the power to do so.
