How can IT Governance be Implemented Pragmatically by Enterprises?

Implementing governance within an entire enterprise takes a monumental amount of time and effort. On top of that, it isn’t a once and done deal: the monitoring of the governance process is key to continued success. This article found on Agile IT Governance provides a quick read on how to pragmatically implement IT Governance. As with any governance process, the article features an emphasis on the importance of standards in speeding decisions: Standards are helpful in speeding up decision making processes. A well-articulated standards library and a set of adoption methodologies can be valuable. Or at least a minimum set of standards which must be followed by everyone. Project-based freedom to choose people, processes and technologies may be given to areas not defined by standards. The article also helps explain why IT governance is important: it is the basis of upper management gaining visibility into the projects performed within the organization and likewise assures that those projects line up with business wide goals.
