Application support staff provides a number of key services

This 2003 article from TechRepublic is just as valid today as it was when Tom Mochal first authored it: despite the automated process checks and corrections in any application, you still need people to keep operations running smoothly. While application support groups may seem to only consist of “plugging leaky holes”, Mochal recognizes that they are involved in much more, including disaster recovery, assisting users, and assisting with business processes. In fact, the application support group provides a level of expertise that allows the overall business to make more informed, beneficial decisions than they possibly could on their own.
